well let me guess you gain fries and ketchup from this plant

To all those who think this is frankenfood, it is GRAFTING. Most fruit are grafted onto wild stock. I have a plum growing on a peach tree. Go to your garden center and ask about "family fruit trees" where you can get several varieties on one tree. To T&M, why are you being so cagey about the varieties and how to achieve the graft? For profit? Imagine if the inventor of grafting never told you about it. Imagine if you had to pay to license the use of grafting? In the old days, people didnt hide every advance. Newton didnt patent the theory of gravity. But this isnt even going to lose you money. Seriously. Just how much do you thing home grafting will cost you on this one? Your sales are going to be novelty gifts only. And most of those people will not waste their time playing with this kind of thing. Like most people dont graft their own roses. So all you are doing is hanging onto the knowledge out of sheer habit. Corporate greedy habit. Far better to share the infor and win reputation brownie points. Seriously; its worth more to you than holding on to this "secret".

This is my second year of growing the tomtato. Last year was good, this year it is excellent. I had a couple of hundred tomatoes last year but this year they have come thick and fast. I am looking forward to the potatoes. My great-grandson and I are having a contest this year; this plant is a wonderful way to get young children interested in gardening.
Alistair Sunderland писав(ла):
Hi Martyn sounds great. Can I ask what recipes you use both products for? Have you ever used the potatoes for chips and the tomatoes for ketchup? That would make one meal from one plant? Text me back and thanks

Martyn Woolf does this regrow patatos back each season after harvest
LaKeba Fondren писав(ла):
I know that when potatoes are ready the green part of the plant usually wilts back and dies to the ground. Will the tomato plant wilt like that and you just get what you get without further crops or will it continue to grow after you have harvested the potatoes. I'm very confused about this plant but enthusiastically curious.
LaKeba Fondren писав(ла):
Thank you for your prompt reply.
Thompson & Morgan TV писав(ла):
LaKeba Fondren You can harvest the tomatoes throughout the summer, but once you have lifted the plant to harvest the potatoes then the plant is unlikely to survive. Therefore you might prefer to leave the potatoes in the ground for a few weeks loner in order to maximise your tomato crop.
LaKeba Fondren писав(ла):
Is there a way I can obtain this plant here in Southern California of the United States of America?
Thompson & Morgan TV писав(ла):
LaKeba Fondren Unfortunately we are unable to send live plants to the USA - they would not survive the journey.

I have experience grafting other plants and trees, it's quite simple really, I know T&M obviously sell this tomtato but is there any reason why I can't select a tomato and potato variety I like and do this myself?
Thompson & Morgan TV писав(ла):
TheJunkyardgenius No reason at all why you shouldn't give it a go! Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

I don't see the point of tomtato plants. They are great as a unique gift to a gardener for a birthday or Christmas but the price for the everyday gardener is too much. You could buy a packet of seeds plus seed potatoes for a third of the price.
Thompson & Morgan TV писав(ла):
You're right - they do make a great gift for gardeners who like something a little different. As a company, we like to offer new and interesting novelty plants as well as the tried and tested, well known favourites. Tomtato plants are most certainly a novelty and offer a space saving way of growing two crops on one plant. But as you say - the everyday gardener will probably enjoy a packet of seeds just as much.

Science. Making you dreams of making homemade fries and ketchup come true.

@NACHOS RULE! grafting is also science
Martin Trevino писав(ла):
TheLAKERSareGodsTeam God didn't make this tomtato. Or else it would be natural. If your going to be Speaking from a religious point of view. Sooo yeah science bitch
NACHOS RULE! писав(ла):
Yeah, this isn't science. This is God. Science is genetic modification.
Emdadul Haque писав(ла):
Thanks. I a Bangladeshi. How can I collect seeds and cultivatdin tomtato in our fertile lands.
Thompson & Morgan TV писав(ла):
Emdadul Haque Tomtatoes are grafted plants so you cannot simply sow them from seed. They are produced by grafting a potato plant to tomato plant - effectively joining two plants together.
Emdadul Haque писав(ла):
Have any different of taste between Tomato,Potato & Tomtato
Thompson & Morgan TV писав(ла):
Hello there. The tomatoes and potatoes should taste exactly the same as they would on normal tomato or potato plants.

Not feasable for mass production as this plant doesnt produce *** Авторизуйтесь, чтобы увидеть ссылку *** each plant will most likely will have diffirent taste...
Thompson & Morgan TV писав(ла):
***** Our Tomtatoes are grafted plants which are well suited to the home gardener. With regard to seeds, both the tomato and the potato parts will grow normally and produce tomato seed and seed potatoes just as ungrafted varieties would. However, any offspring from these seed would simply grow as normal tomato plants or potato plants - but would not grow as Tomtatoes.

It is still a Genetically Modified Organism, they did it in a more natural way instead of splicing a plant's DNA in a lab like monsanto, but it is still a GMO, goes to show GMOs aren't bad, what is bad is who is making and providing the GMOs and how they are doing it. Monsanto's GMOs are not to be trusted, but that doesn't mean that Genetically Modified Organisms are bad.
Thompson & Morgan TV писав(ла):
Hi ColumboNinja, thank you for your comment. We agree, GM isn't all bad - there are good arguments both for and against. Although in this case we can confirm this is a physical modification rather than genetic -- the genes of each plant have not been tampered with. The tomato and potato plants have simply been bonded together physically - they only share a vascular system, which transports water and nutrients around the plant.
